Chicken With my Head Cut Off

Half of the people who work in the kitchen (the k-crew) are gone right now, so things have been kind of crazy. I worked both lunch and dinner today, and it was lots of fun. We got done early both times, and we got to run around like crazy people, trying to get everything done. Even though it's cold outside, we were hot and sweaty, and we joked that we looked like chickens with our heads cut off, just running every which way.

Although, I'm not sure if a headless chicken could run very fast...

If you ever see a decapitated chicken, let me know what it looks like.

Back From Singapore

Our "official" teacher for Theology 2 got back this week, after traveling around the globe teaching. He has spent the last three weeks in Singapore teaching on Romans 6, 7, and 8, so he's a little jet lagged, but I absolutely love him. He is one of the best professors I have had the chance to hear lecture, and it just makes class so much more fun. I have had few profs, either here or at CBC, who actually present information in a way that forces me to think and stay engaged, but he does, and it's great.

If there were a BCOM, teacher of the year, award, I would officially award it to Ed Dudek (this page is in similar format to the class notes he gives us), with Tony Hedricks coming in a close second.

Blessings,

The Abomidable Sweet and Sour Monster

I officially made a huge mess today

I work in the kitchen here at school, and me and another girl made Chinese, sweet and sour chicken. It was really good, but I got stuff everywhere. I had to take the raw chicken that was sitting in marinade (A bunch of sauces and stuff to make it taste good), drip it off, and roll it in corn starch (it kind of looks like flour, and it makes things really thick and sticky), then Anna fried it until it got crispy and ready for the sauce

The marinade made my gloves wet, so the corn starch stuck to them until they were really heavy and gooey. I looked like the abominable sweet and sour monster or something

Beautiful Dissonance

This week has been the beginning of our Theology 2 course, which is a study of the nature of man, sin, and salvation. Needless to say, it's been a lot of fun, and the questions that have sprung forth from it have been a debater's joy, because there are so many ways to go at them.
3/4 of the time we don't feel the need to come to the same conclusions or even anywhere near a conclusive answer, because we are discussing simply for the sake of stirring up controversy and challenging thinking. Really the point is to create a kind of beautiful dissonance and then just revel in how huge our God is.

Not everyone in the class enjoys "arguing" points of theology, but, for those of us who live for it, the "discussion" hours of class are wonderful. Just to get the wheels in your head turning, here's one of the questions we were throwing around on Monday:
Does God love Satan, and, if He does, does that mean that we are to do the same?

Have fun trying to wrap your head around that one.

Blessings!

World's Largest Disco Ball

So... I've officially slept for twelve hours between last night and now, and I'm still tired. Granted, that's not all from the Aquire the Fire (ATF) -- something about staying up until 2:00am every night this week -- but working from 7:00am to 9:00pm certainly had something to do with it.

Officially, I worked as an usher on Saturday -- I had outreach on Friday night, so I missed the first part of the event -- which ment that I ran up and down stairs and up and down stairs and up and down stairs. Halfway through the morning, though, I got moved to the "tin foil table" where I covered pieces of cardboard with tin foil for the kids and leaders. It was slightly crazy, but a couple of the other volunteers and a couple of wonderful highschool girls came to my rescue, tore foil and handed out cardboard as fast as their hands could fly. (three of them were actually my mentor's cousins) We survived, and got through the massive line just a few minutes after the lunch break ended. There were a few more rush times, but a couple of guys who were attending and one of the youth pastors helped me prep a bunch of squares, so it was much calmer.

The end result was certainly worth it though. Mike was talking about letting your light shine and your voice be heard, and he asked all of the kids, who wanted to commit to doing so, to stand and flash their tin foil while they played lights all across the stadium. It looked like a giant disco ball, and the visual was pretty sweet. A bunch of the people who worked at the Target Center (where we held the event) came in to watch, so they got to hear part of what Mike said as well.

Drinking from a Fire Hose

I'm so psyched up to play with computer stuff right now, it's not even funny. One of the teachers we've had this week has been talking to us about digital communications stuff, and it just plain makes me happy. He's given us addresses for all kinds of cool websites that have free templates, and the little hacker inside of me is jumping for joy at the chance to play with style sheets.

Yeah, I'm a nerd. I know, but, right now, I'm a happy nerd.

Too happy of a nerd to stay here and ramble, though, so I'm off to go explore some more.

Have a blessed day.

We're Early!!!

Hoo Yeah!! We got out of Practical Training (PT) early tonight -- for the first time in almost two weeks. ...so it was only five minutes early...but, I'll still count my blessings. I work in the kitchen, on the dinner dish crew, so, if we get done early, we can leave without having to make up the time later. It's like five minutes just got added to my life. Lol.

Seriously, though, God is good. People have been getting sick right and left around here, but, so far, me and my roommate have been exempt.
The pic is my lovely roommate back when it was actually warm around here. Today is a "warm" day for winter, and we had a high of 14 degrees. Compared to what we had over the weekend, it was practically tropical. People were going without coats and everything--I think the weather has made us all nuts...

Have a blessed day.
