Today
I want to read you a story, one of my very favorite stories, about
how God wants to be known by every single person on the planet, every
single one. Just imagine all of those people.
Today,
we're just getting started with class, even though we already kind of
know each other, and, so, I think we're going to just get started
with our story too, even though I bet you already know how the story
ends. Because, our story starts in the Bible. It starts in the very
first verse of the very first book of the Bible, Genesis 1:1. I'll
bet you've heard that verse before. Can you say it with me?
1
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
“In
the beginning.” In the beginning, God was there, and, in the
beginning, God had a plan. He had a plan that made the whole earth,
every type of animal and plant and rock that you have ever seen,
every snowflake you've ever eaten, and every puddle you've ever
jumped in. And, God didn't stop at the beginning. Let's keep reading
the story and find out what happens next.
2
The earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of
the deep, and the Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the
waters. 3 Then God said, "Let there be light "; and there
was light. (Genesis 1:1-3 NASB)
26
Then God said, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our
likeness ; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the
birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over
every creeping thing that creeps on the earth."
[7
Then the LORD God formed man of dust from the ground, and breathed
into his nostrils the breath of life ; and man became a living being.
8 The LORD God planted a garden toward the east, in Eden ; and there
He placed the man whom He had formed. ](Genesis 2:7-8 NASB)
Did
you notice that I skipped some verses there? You can go back and read
the rest of the verses later, but, right now, I want to read about
one special part of the story. Can you guess what that special part
of the story is? Let's find out...
